@N00bPancakes my guess is: so that you can tap anywhere on this custom text input field.
I just fixed some weird bug in legacy code which was caused by UI that contained text input fields embedded inside of text input fields.
How can anyone even think of this as a good idea?!
Needless to say, the UI was just broken. Maybe not a few iOS versions earlier. But definitely on the current iOS.
