dfox428279yThat's a tough one. It's sad that someone would rip them off like that. It does show though that clients should do better vetting of contractors they hire.

There are far too many people that do this and each time i encounter another it fills me with disappointment.

Rabee31629yThere should be a balance where it is fair for both parties, But I once got a client accepting a crazy number while it was an attempt to get rid of him.

trogus133389yIf someone sold them a "custom" design that was off the shelf, that's a dick move and possibly actionable from a legal perspective. Imagine you spend $3k buying a "custom" tailored suit only to find out they just pulled one off the rack that retails for $300

Focab189yCouple of years ago here in South Africa a theme was used for a government website, the original theme was purchased for under 50 dollars and sold to the client for over 50 000 dollars. once it came out people where pissed cause that was tax payers cash.

That is terrible. I hope the agency that did that had to return the funds received.

pmaojo2479yI had the same situation, 8000€ woocommerce buggy site, terrible responsiveness, 45 pagespeed rate, "premium" template + about 50 plugins, none updated, neither wp, he didn't want to accept truth, asked me not to talk about that again

the site is probably better than most custom sites for that budget. so in fact the client could be better off this way..even though it's morally despicable
Looking over a clients website to see what they paid for from the guy the previously paid thousands of dollars for.
End up with a personal dilemma of whether or not to let them know all they did was charge them a few thousand to host their Wordpress website on a godaddy server and it's just a generic theme not even customized for the client.
