    On a side note I've actually used heroku (a little) and it's pretty nice actually.

    I think what they mean is this was built because some devs saw a need, not because some guy who wanted to make money paid some devs to do it

    It means the devs came up with the idea themselves and made them. So the idea didn't come from the "idea people".
