JEE/JSR is over engineered in my opion. There are just too many standards.Used it a couple of times, then tried Spring and Struts.Over engineering and a lot of verbosity. :(. Eventually, they do work fine.

mikepii29yJava EE is what Java non-users still tend to think of and that gets a lot of flak but the open source Java world is awesome! Check out Play Framework for web and Netty for simpler, lower latency things like pixel servers. Java 8 has done a bit to reduce verbosity with lambdas and functional collection operations.

@bdhobare @mikepii I've played with Spring, Hibernate, and Dropwizard and enjoyed it.
