@jazzjackrabbit I am very good at doing technical work. I learned "technology", also through degrees in electrical engineering and physics and computer science, which are quite math-heavy. Your diagnosis is completely off, but nice try.

daearol214yDon’t get hung up on it, I do these puzzles for fun and not for serious evaluation. You can learn some neat tricks. Treat them as an opportunity to see a different perspective! :D

Just signed up for hacker rank and going through same shit, all questions are pure algebra

@daearol In any other time I might have enjoyed it, but between course assignments, writing a paper, going over math-related stuff for PhD interviews, and computer vision stuff for industry interviews.... I am one tired hamster.

Like the olympics, Esports, hobbies, they train you to act and work in a specific way. It’s a lot of conditioning, someone who is rank 1 on hacker rank wouldn’t necessarily hold a PhD. :) -
@jazzjackrabbit How miserable are you that you opened up an account only to write discouraging comments on my rant?
I feel like life didn't go well for you. I hope things get better for you on the next life. -
@daearol Yes, I guess to excel in competitive programming you would have to commit to it. Probably there are geniuses that succeed in both that and PhD. I hope they are rare :)

What ever you’re researching, it’s more important than what’s on hacker rank. I actually envy that more, I cant do what you do! :D -
@jazzjackrabbit Devrant is the place where programmers blow steam off, so if you don't want to read about other people "whining" you can go browse Instagram.
You made the assumption that I am bad at these codility things when I never said that - I only said I don't think it's not the correct evaluation of an engineer. You assumed I struggle with technology and it's not the right pick for me. That's not true either. I don't have to shoot myself in the leg to get a PhD - I already have 3 offers, but I am still interviewing because I want to make sure I end up in the right place.
You made all those mistakes and still you think you are in a position to give advice to complete strangers. You are not.
You don't tell it "straight to the face", you are being arrogant. People with decent lives just live them instead of opening an account only to comment negative stuff here.

I've been doing some Codility exercises, and I can't see how it reflects on my skills as an engineer. It's just math riddles that can be solved with those fancy calculators.
It completely misses the aspects of managing resources, good design, understanding other people's code, hardware optimizations...
