I can't believe that we are in the year 2016 and still there are schools teaching Turbo Pascal (in Central America but still...)

Nowadays there are so many choices to teach how to program than the old turbo Pascal ... There are even some just to learn and not useful in real life but are really good to learn ;-)

Some schools in Romania are also teaching Turbo Pascal. . .

They still teach turbo pascal in both my college and high school. I think it's good as a start to learn programming logic as the language is pretty simplistic

@fransiskapw agreed, the language is also well designed and consistent.

Why just not teach C/C++ from the get go?

@Artemix C/C++ should have been read as C or C++. I get your point and I agree that some teachers could do a better job explaining the differences, but I dont know how much this really matters when starting out.

@Artemix languages come and go while the concepts and tehniques are timeless. I think that schools should concentrate on these rather than on languages and I proposed C++ as it is in vogue right now.

@Balubs, because it's dangerous to release a wild bunch of new programmers into the realm of pointers and free will. Let them be safe in the playpen first.

@Eariel I think that beginners can get by without pointers until they are ready.
