A 10yr+ self professed senior Java developer does not know where init.d is and can't be bothered to check Google.... *facepalm, bangs head*

Now explaining to him how branching works and why one change is in one branch and not the other... Because I don't want to have to be forced to merge both together....

What Java has to do with init.d? Learning Linux is not mandatory, right?

@mossaddeque usually you write Java to run on Linux servers because they're way cheaper than Windows ones and the IDEs are free or just cheaper (JetBrains/Eclipse vs VS license)

Most huge shops pay for licenses. Whether it's websphere, jboss, or whatever other vendor it is kind of nice to have the centralized management and all the extra bells and whistles. Most sites have the windows enterprise licenses too so I don't think they pay for that. It's still silly to run a JVM on Windows but people do it.

@ninjatini Actually, I remember getting a $3000 MSDN subscription my first year because I needed Visual Studios, that's much more expensive than Java IDEs.

That's probably why MS runs DreamSpark, get kids hooked on all things Microsoft while they're young and big companies pay later... or so the thinking goes I guess
