I think it's too early to open it to the community. First let it grow a little so the creators see which direction to take. Nothing fuck up as unnecessary functionality.

Seethe4599yI don't think it needs to be open source, but I think a public well documented API would be awesome!

dfox426039yThere's no plans to open source the entire app (that would be very, very difficult and require extensive work to clean up certain areas) but I've always said we 100% want to open source useful components of it to give back to the community. I'm trying to write stuff going forward with that in mind so we have some high quality components, mainly on the backend where we use Neo4j and I think we're doing a lot of cool things around that.
On that note, if anyone ever sees anything we're doing and thinks it would be helpful for them if it was open source, just let me know.
Also what @Seethe said is priority. There seems to be a lot of interest in the API so we're trying to work quickly to make that happen. Right now I'm sending basic documentation to anyone who emails me but we definitely want to make it an official thing as it seems there's so many cool projects that can be done. So stay tuned for that. -
Seethe4599y@dfox that's great to hear! I would email you for the API details If I could think of something that hasn't already been done! (Maybe Alexa support...)

dfox426039y@Seethe that could be cool :) If you think of anything/just want to play around with it you can email me at david@devrant.io

bkrem12729yI think @dfox 's limited approach makes sense for the scale they're at right now, definitely queueing up ideas for useful devRant API auxiliaries once I finish CS exams tomorrow :^)
