And next year, when the new application works, it will not be used, as there is the excel sheet on the network drive...

@rutee07 I guess it does, maybe some KPI crap in the background. Locking the old shit is on track, KPI is good. The new stuff is delayed, but then it's only one bad KPI and not two.
That's what happens with management by numbers. -
NoMad140754yNext year they're gonna use tables on physical paper sheets and just give everyone copies. Lol

@NoMad Oh yeah, like the list with old compiler licences that existed only as printed paper sheet buried deep down in some of IT's drawers. That was fun when I needed to touch an old project.
That was the project where they had forgotten to check in the IDE project settings which auto-generated the startup code. I had to reverse-engineer the binary to figure out the register settings and conclude what IDE settings must have been used.
And in order to do that, I first had to go for trial and error to figure out the linkage order they had used in their project settings because otherwise, the binary was different all over the place. -
I sure hope for them the wrong person does not get infected with a ransomware lol

And this is how we ended up with someone tracking covid numbers in excel...
Somewhat related, I wrote code for a dot matrix printer a few months back. -
@Demolishun No, that's completely out of question. Actually, that would be even worse than Excel.

skylord2214yMy agency took some contracts from this company on a few different apps but they refused any CMS or Admin software and wanted google sheets because the marketing teams had training done in it, so now we literally have a scheduled script that keeps synching our DB with their stupid google sheets... Fun fun fun
For fucks sake, corporate IT has locked a database application for new entries because it will be phased out by the end of the year. However, the new application is not yet working.
The interim solution? An excel sheet on a shared network drive. In fucking 2020! Unbe-fucking-lievable!
