mrstebo9288yIt is pretty much the same as Github, but the usual stuff you add on to github is integrated in to gitlab.
One of the newest features is review apps for pull requests (similar to review apps in heroku), where you can test a new feature someone wants to add.
I think they also have Koding integration to! -
mrstebo9288yI use github for my public projects and just stick the private ones on gitlab. I think you can import/Export your repos so you can move them to github if you wanted to 😉

The last time I checked GitLab on Digital ocean required one of their 2GB VPSs which are priced at about 10$ or 20$ per month. However, GitHubs starter plan is priced at $7 with unlimited private repos.
Not sure if GitLab can be installed on a shared hosting account. -
@uziiuzair that's for the community version, they have a free self-hosted option. I'm using it in the last months and it's great, the integrated CI is awesome.
But github still has a much larger user base, so oss projects tend to be hosted there -
mrstebo9288yI think they have a Docker image or vagrant box for it 😉@thmnmlst
I just use the one hosted by them. The CI used to be a bit slow to get started, but now it starts up your CI tasks not soon after you've pushed 😃 -
mrstebo9288y@vortexman100 the only caveat with that, is that sometimes it can go a little bit slow (maybe they are doing updates in the background or something). But not a problem with hobby projects 😉

@mrbongiolo oh wow I was not aware of that option. I always thought you'd to download it haha

So happy I found GitLab! Best feature is the integrated CI. No need to pay to have CI for private repositories for my hobby projects 👍
