ludwig548yMy first language was C#. It was an incredibly tough language to pick up as I had literally no developer experience prior. Plus I didn't make that much of an effort to pick it up. I think Java would have been a better first language.

Java. To be honest I don't mind that much either way, everyone has to start with something, right? I mean in a 100% ideal world I'd have been able to start with Haskell or Scala, but that's probably not going to be the trend in software development any time soon. Excepting that, maybe Python? I know I love it now, but I don't know if that's affected by my experience...

Morgane4708yI started with a very very light introduction in Matlab, but my first "real" programming class was in C. I don't code in these languages anymore but I think they were very good to learn !

I started with pascal and i wouldnt change it for any high level language, i loved having to code everything instead of, say, array.length
-
I started with C. I am glad that I learned C first. It has given me a very good foundation and confidence to pick up any curly bracket programming language very quickly.

Eariel19068yFirst language I used was TI BASIC as a child. First language I studied at college was Pascal. First language I worked on was NATURAL. I think the only one I would change is NATURAL, it was not useful on my future. I would rather start with C.

To be honest, Batch. Made some pretty nice games in school when no one was looking, like a quiz game which was capable of reading txt files etc...
I eventually was accused of hacking the school server because I was always in the command prompt...
I eventually moved on and tried JavaScript, and loved it (still my favorite). After that, I got accused of always being on the Internet... :D -
Html and php. Before all that CSS nonsense. In the good old iframes times, with PHP everywhere. EVERYWHERE. *Shudders*
Whish I could've started with JavaScript. -
I started with x32 assembly on my vita laptop... Actually, I quite like the idea of my father
-
brod99258yAssembly, introduced to me by a cousin.
8 years later I'm all about JavaScript and Rust, safe to say I've disappointed him. -
Python! I'm glad of this. It's exactly what I needed in school (astronomical image processing was my final project), and it's served me well professionally, too.
I'd always wanted to program on my calculator, but no one in my class would show me how. They said that if I couldn't figure it out on my own, I would be too dumb to do it anyways. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything helpful online, but was frustrated enough with their tautology that I just left it alone until I could take a proper course in it.
I guess it turned out okay in the end. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -
@mpotratz I started with english, french AND German, as I my nurse was english, and my parents spoke both langs... 😁

What was your first language? What would you wish your first language was instead (if you didn't like it)?
