As someone who has just finished a foundation degree in computer science, I'm really wanting to get 'my foot in the door' with the IT industry to start building my career that I'm so passionate about, but I just don't know where to start. Any recommendations in what level of jobs I should apply for/where to begin?

Ah yes, took me a year to land a job. Don't let that discourage you though, learn from my experience. Connections, connections, connections ... talk to everyone you know who may or may not have something for you, be it your teachers, TAs, friends, anyone who can vouch for you. I spent a year looking for jobs the normal way (Go through the internet, find job posts, edit my CV, write a cover letter, submit, repeat), that got me nowhere. Then I spoke to my friends and professors who can can vouch for me and they helped me through the whole process, including CV, cover letter, and interview preparations. Do both but focus on connections.

Also, expand on your portfolio as much as you and don't stay idle. A question that often comes up is what did you do after you graduate and they don't want to hear gaming and socializing but more of something along the lines of how you're building upon a skill set and that can be beneficial to them and such.

    Best of luck :)

@lauracbaa I am glad it helped! Remember that companies would rather hire someone they know whether first or second hand, especially for starters as we dont have a wide skill set and experiemce yet. Best of luck in your endeavor and Rock it ;)
