Elementary OS was both my parents choice.
They liked the simplicity of a dock 😊

My dad also has partially accepted it... more out of neccessity than because he wanted it :p

His new laptop, he'll be going back to Windows tho (mainly cus he wants to run some Windows-only software and WINE wasn't suitable)

Now you'll get an endless stream of tech support calls and then a load of "this never was an issue with Windows"
