xios16438y@linuxxx biggest problem I've had with them is that a regular Joe user has no friggin clue how and/or will to use them, because you usually have to install some form of a QR code scanner to utilize the data. If you provide it as a functionality with your own app then it's no biggie. Counting on users downloading 3rd party app to open a link can be interesting.
-
@xios Fair enough, good explanation.. Use them a lot personally but see why they could be annoying indeed now :)
-
flag020318ySome OEM camera apps now have qr detection & scanner built in. I'd love if Google added it AOSP and other OEMs too added it to their apps.
-
yo-yo13628y@xios It's both hilarious and scary how things need to be automated in order to become widely used these days. Just more proof that users are generally dumb and lazy as fuck.
-
@Jase but the whole point of QR code is make things accessible faster. If you have to download a third party app just to get a string from a QR code which you could copy by hand, it may not be that useful or convenient.
-
zankar20698yI cannot understand why don't ALL camera apps support some sort of 'tap-to-read' QR functionality... I mean QRhas been around for quite some time now...
-
@cankarales Agreed, it's such a basic and widely used feature and yet you have to install another app(and don't know which one of the 10 millions because apparently a QR scanner or flashlight is like the hello world of Android devs).
Although Windows Phone 8 and BB10OS had a built-in QR scanner. -
@alertJS You'd rather type in a 50 character URL than just quickly scan a code? Well, most users would disagree.
-
Another thing, if the QR will open a link, I like to know what the URL is before I click it or visit it.
Qr can be a powerful tool to download spyware and/or malware on people devices. -
@alybadawy All QR apps I've used so far displayed the string first and only opened a link after clicking on it.
-
I swear by my qr alarm clock. It emails you the qr then you print it out and put it by your coffee maker. The motherfucker won't turn off until you scan that code. Works like a charm.
-
@xorith "puzzle alarm clock" on Google play. Looks like they changed it to just a Barcode scanner but it still works with me qr code.
-
yo-yo13628y@xios still same Jase. The first time it was because of a username change (but then just decided to keep my username lol). The second time which was just a few days ago, I thought I would try and see if dfox fixes that bug that prevents u from deleting your account (just out of curiosity), it seems that he did indeed fix it. Lol :(
-
yo-yo13628y@lucas22 In this case I do agree with you. I can't be bothered with QR because I need to install a third party app and because it isn't used enough to warrant me spending time to install another app. If however QR codes were used everywhere, I wouldn't mind spending those 30 seconds to install another app.

Here is a good way to integrate the functionality. Provide it yourself and voila. No becomes a yes.
