First you need to figure out what in general your site is for. Then look at some of your favorite websites for design inspiration. It doesn't matter if the website if related to what you are doing or not.

Its not just about looking and copying. Design is a skill that you need to study. You need to learn about what it is you are looking at. Design, layout, composition, colour, hierarchy, i could go on. It fucks me off that design is dismissed as an unskilled add on to a project, and treated as such by clients and developers (some). Because you are clearly a beginner (as you don't know what bootstrap is) then i suggest you focus. Draw up a plan, wireframe each page, design the functionality and flow through the site. Read, study, do all this before you consider the design. Good luck.
