I want to get into CMU so bad , with an ACT of 24 , not a chance ;_; ;_; , i cries man
-
@AngryDev I hope you don't mind me asking, What factors do they consider for admissions or what do they look for in a student? And could you also tell me what you included in your application :)
Would mean a lot to me if you answer these.
Sorry for asking :') -
@cy3erg33k okay so honestly I don't know what factors they look at - they don't tell us. All I know from my own experience (and that of my friends here is that
1) previous programming experience is not actually necessary
2) Often times the decisions of universities seem arbitrary. For instance, I was accepted into CMU and UIUC but rejected from other "lower tier" universities such as Princeton and Cornell (here I use the term lower tier loosely as I'm specifically talking CS), which leads me to
3) make sure your essays reflect you as a person and not some mythological other. A lot of universities have different types of people who they like to accept so if you type your essay trying to "look good" and not "be yourself", you might get into a "better" university, but you'll be miserable - it's not worth it. Or you could be rejected by "better" universities and still be miserable. Either way it's bad
4) if you're a junior, try to get an internship over the summer or do (con't) -
@cy3erg33k something productive - universities like to see that (BUT not having it won't be a game killer. It's a nice-to-have).
5) take the ACT/SAT seriously. If you study for it properly, you CAN improve your score (there's a saying - don't study hard study smart), and that'll help your chances
6) if you're a senior and already submitted your application well... hope and pray? I guess? -
@AngryDev Wow thank you , you aren't an angry dev after all :P, ill focus on my essays as you said :) .thanks again.

@cy3erg33k
- Startup is really good actually
