The 2 years suck..
Is it a good company at least?
Otherwise think about leaving..
Software companies are blooming during the pandemic and seem to pay more initial salary for new employees. They’re just screwing over existing employees I think 😬 -
@DevLivesMatter depends greatly on the company.
Start up, probably.
Established company, not so much. -
Sounds like you’re working for promises mate. Strike 1: They cut your salary. strike 2: promised to give it back, didn’t. strike 3: 2 years waiting for next promise.
What excuse are they going to give you in 2 years? Are you prepared to wait for that? -
"and promised to give them back later"
...and you believed them?!
I would've started spending 30% of my time searching for new work immediately. A company making those sorts of decisions is either broke and therefore has no future, or values its staff so little it looks for any excuse to pay them less. Neither option is tenable. -
myss44504yAgree with @AlmondSauce
Reminds me of time when my company told me they're shifting away from project they hired me for and can't pay me for 3 months, but if I wish I can still work for them, and after those 3 months the project should be back on track.
They've basically asked me to live 3 months out of thin air while working for them. -
@just8littleBit
I'm with just8littleBit .
Depends on if you want to be there, if you feel you're still paid well compared to the market .
Only way to find out really is look for other jobs... but this is all a VERY relative thing.
This could be a hilariously bad situation, or not much of a big deal. -
Never accept a pay cut unless there's also a work time cut. I don't know of a single case where that hasn't ended in the company going bankrupt anyway.
What's worse: in countries with social insurance, your unemployment pay is calculated from your net income, and a pay cut will also hit you here. -
Fuck me. So was this declared in writing? Did you consent to it? . Just seek legal advice and fucking sort it out or carry on being taken for a ride. I’ll bet the cunts that dreamt this up didn’t take a pay cut.

Is it some startup company or "really big fucker"?
I had never such problems with big companies.
My company cut 30% of our salaries in March 2020 until October 2020 and promised to give them back later
we just got the call saying we are never gonna get them but hey you are getting shares that are worth double the value ... but with a 2 year vesting period...
i feel i lost so much well earned money....
