				@philcr Arrogant. Why should e.g. a non technical person know about the difference?

 @OP
 Depends on the context really. Explain calmy that those are different languages, if it comes in a normal conversation.

				 philcr30309y@Makenshi not arrogant at all, in my circles of friends I have people that I can talk Dev with and people who couldn't give two shits. Therefore I wouldn't engage some who doesn't grasp (out of choice or otherwise) the concepts in a conversation about it. Just like I wouldn't post asking on Dev rant for help adjusting tappet clearances on my classic mini. philcr30309y@Makenshi not arrogant at all, in my circles of friends I have people that I can talk Dev with and people who couldn't give two shits. Traser10279y@Makenshi well I ment it more like explaining it to someone that's already a developer. Sorry I didn't state that. Traser10279y@Makenshi well I ment it more like explaining it to someone that's already a developer. Sorry I didn't state that.

				 xios16409y@Voxera American football and European football in my mind is a comparison that defies logic. Java is Football. A game where you kick a ball with your foot. Then there is JavaScript. You call it football, but it's not a ball and you throw it with your hands. xios16409y@Voxera American football and European football in my mind is a comparison that defies logic. Java is Football. My mind is melting everytime there is comparison around football and American rugby. And I am sorry to all the rugby fans.

 And my mind also melts when I hear Java === JavaScript. It's tricky because there is so much common general syntax.

				 xios16409yI usually handle the situation by telling the story about the birth of JavaScript. How at the time Java was all the rage and a guy from Java team desided to make his own thing and ride on the Javas publicity. And so began the JS framework wars. xios16409yI usually handle the situation by telling the story about the birth of JavaScript. xios16409y@norman70688 American football is rugby with more padding (rugby is more violent) and rules. What I am trying to say that OPs comparison of Football to American Football is a perfect way to describe the deep gap of ideology between Java and JS xios16409y@norman70688 American football is rugby with more padding (rugby is more violent) and rules. philcr30309y@xios I would disagree with rugby being more violent. Some of the tackles in American football look pretty fucking violent. But I suspect this is they over compensate for the padding philcr30309y@xios I would disagree with rugby being more violent. Some of the tackles in American football look pretty fucking violent.
