Mouse starting to break down once again.... Any suggestions for a good durable/comfortable mouse ? Shouldn't be too big, I have medium-sized hands. Also open to alternative input methods (trackball, trackpad, etc) if recommended.

I use the RAT 5 from MadCatz. It's a gaming mouse but they also do a toned down office version. Nice and ergonomic, plus adjustable grip length and weight.

As much as I hate putting money in Apple's pocket, I must say that I also love the Magic Trackpad. However it's only really the most useful if you're using it on Mac.

@SirusAmory Thanks I'll check it out. Yeah I'm not sure about how productive I would be with a magic trackpad, but have been eyeing that for a long time. After reading feedback regarding a trackpad for development however, I always came to the conclusion that it wouldn't be a good fit... Do you have experience with a trackpad + development ? Am on a Mac, so that wouldn't be an issue.

I use some 20euro gaming mouse from trust, i used it for five years now and still works well, while my friends mouse, a expensive razr naga had ben replaced 3 times.

Logitech M570 trackball, I have several and I love them. While the rest of the office is complaining about RSI in their shoulders, I never have to move my arm. I have small to medium sized hands and it fits wonderfully. The only disadvantage is that I wish it had a couple extra buttons for macros.

You can use the Logitech software to reprogram the back and forward keys to do different things in different programs. I prefer to use them an undo and redo when I'm coding.

@Salmakis I usually don't trust low-cost products except if they have really good reviews. But even then, I use my mouse up to ~ 14hrs per day, so I wouldn't want to save with this particular purchase.

@sylar182 I never really had the guts to try a trackball, but I have been considering it a lot. In what way do you think the trackball is better than a mouse (except mentioned ergonomical/health ailments)? Does it make you more productive, or is it just more comfortable to you ?

@thecritic specifically more comfortable, I use some fairly large screens so being able to flick the ball with my thumb is huge. And when I'm on the laptop it saves me precious workspace since I can set it and forget it.

This particular trackball is off the side rather than being centered like some others I've seen. This lets it sit in your hand almost identical to the way a mouse would with your fingers on the buttons/scroll wheel, and your thumb on the ball.

Call me a heathen, but I enjoy the basic dell optical mice. Just the right size with a nice tactical feel to them

@sylar182 You have very valid points there. I also happen to have 3 huge screens, it sounds like a trackball would be a good fit. I'd definitely also get the M570, seems to have great reviews on Amazon. I think that's going to be it! Thanks a lot!

@thecritic added bonus, it's pretty durable, I've been known the throw a mouse when debugging my own code. Hope you like it, I just want them to make a Bluetooth model so I don't have to sacrifice a port on my laptop.

logitech g502 proteus spectrum. I use it for gaming too, it's very comfortable, precise and you can add macros or whatever you want to every of his 8 keys. 3 profiles saved on the mouse.

Logitech g series gaming mice are awesome. Having a mouse wheel with bearings in it will change your life.

@thecritic I'm a LAMP stack developer and use the Magic Trackpad everyday at work. I have 3 monitors each with about 3 applications on usually, so being able to swipe through full screen windows really is nice for me. I think it's one of those things that is very niche for usability. If you have a lot of things open all at once, it's really useful. Other than that, probably not worth the money.

Don't understand the bad review for the RAT. Had mine for 3 years now and it's never let me down. Only bad part is you have to have MadCatz drivers and manager installed, otherwise it won't work as expected.
