Sooo... The ways my coworker fucks me:

Last week I have been working on setting up aWireGuard VPN server... Been trying for 4 FUCKING DAYS, the easiest VPN that has ever existed, 2 commands and that's it, I wasn't able to reach it, I checked every forum, tested every possible solution without success, checking ubuntu firewall but it was inactive... Nothing that should cause this. Why? 2 weeks ago we had a security breach and my coworker added a firewall from the cloud console with basic rules allowing only 3 ports, the port I was communicating with was blocked. He didn't bother to mention that he added an external firewall. And the junior me, not wanting to be a pain in the ass, and since that security breach wasn't my responsibility to fix, I didn't ask too many questions, just read the emails going back and forth and "learning" how to deal with that. Kill me please. Next mont a new guy is joining, we had a "quick meeting" of 30 minutes and he managed to make it 2 hours meeting. So a partner who lacks communication and a partner who talks a lot... Will be fun. And I probably should change my username... Is that even possible? @root?

    Username changes are possible

    And why was no firewall in place?!

    @stop they were just test servers... Nothing important was in them

    @walid is not about what is in the server but who should be able to reach it.

    A shitty server with open network will be found by bots and attacked, sooner or later.

    @mundo03 @walid
    its called horizontal escalation. Thats why bigger companies separate their different networks with firewalls and proxies. If someone hacks into DEV he needs to figure out how he can reach PROD instead of directly able to access prod.

    @stop yes, but that is no reason to make it easy to hack

    @stop @mundo03 the servers are just for testing new things, not connected to prod in any way, nothing important on them. I know it doesn't justify not securing them from the beginning, but that's not the point, what I'm trying to say is that my coworker should have mentioned the new firewall instead of having me waste 4 days trying to figure it out by myself, and I figured the change by chance while checking the vps provider console.

    @walid yes, fuck your coworker.
    But also fuck whoever did not secure the server too, which is the event that caused your pain.
