ChipND13078yThat is exactly what it is like where I live. So, I went out and bought a higher end router with 5ghz support. There is only one other network on 5ghz near me. I also bought a power line network adapters for the XBoxs we have on our lowest level.

eeeddr7408yHey there fellow Portuguese :')
I always try wired connections, much easier and faster -
flag020318y5Ghz. Unfortunately m laptop doesn't support 5Ghz N. Debating on whether to stick to 2.4 for it or get a usb 5Ghz dongle or upgrade the internal chip.

oscylo9538yThis post made me check networks in my neighborhood. I found couple with SSIDs generated by ISP. Next I've filtered routers supplied to customers with fast internet connections. Then I've found database with potential passwords generated base on SSIDs. Third password from the list worked :). May it be a cautionary tail. Always change your SSID and password.

mundo0349118yI switched to N, set on channel 6 instead of auto.. it is better now.. but shit, look at this chart

Kimmax109878yGot a raspi as bridge set up with a 5ghz dongle. Hostapd can be a bitch to set up tho. Still cheaper to get 2 dongles for your raspi and pc + the raspi instead of a good new router

Mas quantos portugueses estão aqui hoje? 😛 ++ para todos
The problem is these unremovable free SSID (without hacks anyway) these 2 ISP turn on in every household all over, polluting the airwaves, making signal worse for everyone. -
oscylo9538y@nbamaral I've just moved that network that I had mentioned hacking into different channel so my network has less interference. :)
-
Damn, if people only managed to turn down B and G, things would be much nicer.
I might have used a wireless bridge (to connect buildings) just to overpower all these crap useless SSIDs. :) -
oscylo9538y@nbamaral I had to use 12 dB panel antennas in my wireless bridge to have nice throughput. Now even 5 GHz is not safe at least in US were T-Mobile will be able to use it for LTE.

Kalvin12348yI had the same issue while setting up my LAN at work. We ditched wi-fi and everyone is connected by cable yet we keep a wi-fi ap for phones and when we have to move our laptops around. Sometimes a co-worker comes and tells me that he is having issue connecting to the server via WiFi. I just shrug and tell him I know, it's fucked up.

mundo0349118y@oscylo the stupid thing changes during the day, 6 has been working good for a couple of days now :(
-
oscylo9538y@mundo03 That's no fun. You can consider switching from 20Mhz to 40Mhz. If your clients support that you can get much better throughput.

If you have Zon as your neighbors there's no channel or frequency that can save you
PS: Olá malta! 🇵🇹
