A failed programmer!

Back in school the computer screen was my canvas, the keyboard was my brush and i filled it in with the colors of a language. Helping my fellow students debug and find the solution to their codes. Loved to do that its been 10 years thats i have programmed anything I am trying to figure out where is lost it all. Never got into a job working as programmer as in all the interviews I was asked of definition of things I could never remember but give a something to build or debug I could work it as a charm. Even though didn’t work a programmer kept on programming at home making free programs for friends or helping debug codes. But then I stopped and don’t know why and I really wanna get back into it not for others but for myself to see if i still have it, but its been so long new languages new platform and don’t know where to start. Or should I accept myself as a failed programmer!

    Jump on PeoplePerHour or Freelancer. Pick up a few cheap and nasty jobs until you gain a decent enough reputation to land a project worth putting on your resume, build a portfolio then go for those jobs.

    Sounds like you just got to get back to it. Figure out what type of programming you want to work with and learn some relevant languages for that type of work.

    Start by making an app . I used to develop complex OS back in college and now can't invert a binary tree. So don't worry about theory, just start coding something cool.

    @BixelPitch mostly C++ and java and worked in dotNet environment with visual basic.

    @nachocode yeah thats the idea need to get back into it. Totally unfamiliar with app development environment will be looking into it it which languages and tools will you recommend

    @dotnethostage thanks really appreciate that. Yeah i gess I have to get back jnto it to see if I get the groove back. Will definitely be looing into rust and go. Where can I find those open source project any specific place to look for just search the web?

    @nsabbath depends a lot on what you want to build. Start by making a lite clone on an app you use. You can start with Php or node. Or play with the idea of using Qt with C++. Or Java with Android. Language really don't matter a lot at first. What matters is what are you planning to build and then you'll find your language :)
