I've been trying to use obsidian.md for a while. Today I found a feature in Templater that I wish I knew about sooner.

I have a few templates I use and they are so long and clunky and I repeat parts between them because I couldn't figure out nesting templates between files. Until today.

in templater's files module (https://silentvoid13.github.io/Temp...) it includes an include function "tp.file.include(include_link: string ⎮ TFile"

and that singular function took my one 65 line template file which shares parts with other templates I'd have to remember to edit if I edited any part of it, down to 14 lines separating the shared parts into their own files.

It's a lot more DRY of a template now and will definitely make my experience using Obsidian a lot more manageable, wish I learned about this sooner

tp.file.include is one of those functions that quietly deletes half your template folder the day you find it. Nesting instead of copy-pasting the same header block into six files, then remembering to edit all six - that specific chore is gone forever now.

Obsidian's plugin layer really is its best feature. I went down the same rabbit hole and ended up writing one to sync a vault to and from Notion (obsidotion), mostly so I could stop maintaining the same notes in two places. Templater is still the first thing I'd reinstall on a fresh vault though.
