It’s ok! I’m doing just fine without knowing what scrum is (though I know that it’s a thing). It doesn’t prevent me from being a good dev or writing clean robust code

Scrum is amazing -- But it should be listed as a recruitment requirement for PMs and scrum masters.

If Scrum is done right, there's really not much to learn for a developer.

The whole idea is that developers are better shielded from the whims, requests and random questions of clients, upper management, stakeholders, support, sales, etc.

You agree as a team on a set of tasks for the next 2 weeks, and in the mean time all requests for features and bug reports go to the PM, who will weed out bullshit and priorities.

If there's a major incident, the PM can decide to "break the two week sprint open", to work on a critical bug, by agreeing to take a lower priority task OUT of the current sprint.

So what Scrum is supposed to be, is a set of rules FOR MANAGEMENT, on how they can let developers work effectively without distractions.

I was in local politics for a while, and one of the first things I did was actually introduce Scrum at city hall -- And they've used it successfully for the last 10 years.

They actually have Product Managers with largely autonomous teams, using Trello boards for everything from organizing seasonal events to road renovation.

I mean, it probably is, somewhere. If it's a word that's used, someone has probably made a JS framework and called it after that.
