I'm coding when suddenly a wild popup appears: "w10 scheduled to restart outside of active hours".

-> I want to change my active hours so I can progress w/o being interrupted by windows.

-> w10 doesn't allow me to set it to 8AM - 10PM because:
"Active hours can be set between 1 and 12 hours."

Well.. not sure what to think about this restriction.. It's definitely not dev-friendly ;)

Last it annoyed me like that was during a gaming session with a couple of buddies, it caused me to die that moment so I instantly sought retribution by killing it and disabling its services.

I haven't heard from it since, come to think of it.. Did i actually enable it again.. :p

@lotd tried to out-smart it once by messing with the group policy settings and services - didn't receive any updates at all.. not sure if it's actually fixed or broken

Yeah thats because i saw people in windows 7 never installing updates and then decide internet explorer 7 is the best way to browse the web.

This happens on android as well but dont see people damn crying everytime youtube/gmail is updating.

You can say that decide later and when you restart/shutdown it will install. It doesnt take more than 20 minutes on slowest hard disk, lunch break or meeting and the windows is updated.

People really like to complain for no reason.

@curlyDev It's about being able to decide if I want an update or not. I'm okay with w10 automatic updates as default but I would like to choose how I want to handle updates (which is possible on Android btw.)

w10 automatically installed an keyboard/touchpad driver/update which caused both of them not to work anymore - and I had to download an extra tool (provided by Microsoft) to prevent this update from installing again.

Shouldn't be necessary IMHO.

@dandel10n also, android doesn't require you to stop everything you are doing to restart your phone everyone an app updates...

The upcoming "Creator's​ update" will address this by extending active hours

@starless I can't promise this is correct, but iirc, it is 18 hrs.

@iam13islucky last I checked, I bought a whole OS, not 2/3 of one. Still, 2/3 is better than 1/3.

I don't care about active hours...I want Windows to restart and update when I tell it to not when it decides to do it on its own :/
