I constantly harp on international teams for the way they spell things like organization vs organisation. It drives me nuts lol. It drives them nuts too to be fair. This rant made me think of that.

Misspelt variable names are a particular bugbear of mine, along with table and field names. Why isn't there basic spell checking in IDEs?

I love laughing at "btnDumy". I ALWAYS pronounce them exactly as they appear.

@demortes That's legit american spelling, most Z-ified verbs and shortened spellings are. Synchronize is a Java keyword btw so it's pretty hard to ban it too.

@lbfalvy yeah I know. I'm American and the other team is in new Zealand. I joke with them all the time about it.

I've always thought that learning to program while not knowing English would be extremely difficult. Most function names are English and all that. Print doesn't mean the same everywhere so I try to be a little forgiving with non native English speaking junior devs

It's hard when there's no word suggestions like on mobile phones

Well there is a spelling checker in IDE's. That saves me most of the time. All the American crap is a bit annoying though. If you say we code in English than let it be English, colourful English.
