Update on the saga of PhD application:
(Refer to previous rants for info)

My recommenders have effectively vanished from the face of earth. Emailed again a few days ago, haven't heard anything back yet.
I am almost sure I can't get in without recommendation, even with all my other glories.

... Is this the end of the dream?

    Take it there's no-one else you can draw on for a recommendation? Recommendations aren't usually a massive part of the decision to accept you or not AFAIK, but if you can't find anyone at all who can give you one then unfortunately they may consider that a bit of a red flag.

    @AlmondSauce problem is, they all said they'd write me one. I asked a year ago, I asked again two months ago, all agreed before, and now I am being ghosted. I'm feeling like I'm being pushy, but like, dude, this is just one application. What if I fail and have to do two more? That's way more frustrating to think about.

    @AlmondSauce to add details, this application is actually for my dream project. So I've asked very reputable people, who I've worked with, to write me one. I could switch to others, but what's the point? Those haven't written a paper with me.
