did you know that facebooks servers are so minimalistics?? just a motherboard, harddrives and a psu, its amazing how they manage to design it. btw they got thousands of them or more.

    Yeah so? They could be more minimalistic with only a psu, motherboard, and memory cause of pxe boot. Only servers that really need storage are the database servers and the whole facebook codebase couldn't be more than 2 gb not including the databases

    Like mentioned, those servers just hold the codebase. The storage servers are probably several hundred terabytes, 4u and 250 pounds.

    Well it's obvious since they don't need a GPU so the incredible design is just using what's necessary....

    @No-one real servers just have an integrated basic gpu, just for maintenance. Real servers runs *nix systems and are admin by console. =)
