Hazarth95013y4GB is really low these days :( and due to chip shortages Ram is up on price too.
Maybe something more lightweight like FireAlpaca? I don't know a lot of art software :/ -
If you're okay with vector art, something like Inkscape might scale better to weaker processors?

There once was a ma'am named Sam.
Who was working on a comic without enough ram.
Sam got frustrated and threw up her hands and said,
"I ain't got no more juice and now my effort is dead!"
All the world on hearing this was sad.
Lamenting the lack of humor from NoMad!
What comic are you referring to anyway? How have I missed this? -

NoMad141763yThe laptop is a hand-me-down that has been working for over 6-7 years, I think. If I am to upgrade anything, I should just get a new one. This one's fans go blastic just for opening chrome. It's good as a backup emergency device, not as a everyday laptop.
I've mentioned this in another rant before; so, I'll make enough money to buy a new one after new year. I haven't come to a definite conclusion on what to buy yet tho. -
NoMad141763y@RememberMe last time I tried, inkscape was a pain. Idk. Maybe I'll try again sometime later.

The way to success:
1. Find a gamer in your extended family and/or friends.
2. Ask if you can have her old desktop, she replaced ten years ago and which is now collecting dust somewhere in the attic.
3. Dismantle that filthy piece of crap and clean every part carefully - then reassemble it.
4. Enjoy your now clean ancient gaming PC having 16 GiB RAM and 3 to 6 GiB VRAM.
Might have to replace some fans. Get cheap and slow ones from Scythe - they are good and silent.
If you really know no gamer or they actually sold their old stuff after getting the new rig, you can still try to find used hardware on the internet.
The hardware you need for painting comics is called "office PC" (don't try to play games on that though). -
NoMad141763y@Oktokolo now, that's tricky since I've moved back in with parents a while back and don't have any space to put a PC. Best I can do is laptop, and even that is questionable, considering that I should be able to take it with me when I move again in a few months.
-
Trophy wife would be temporary, but the trophy laptop forever. Also, as you already noticed, size does matter. ^^

@NoMad
I get that minimalist life style is a thing.
But not having enough space for a PC is ridiculous.
And how can a laptop be questionable space-wise - it literally can be used while sitting on your lap?!
I know, that the average chicken can't type, but: Are you actually living in a laying battery?
If that is the case, you indeed do not have enough space for a PC - and should really care about your calcium intake because laying eggs consumes a lot of that. -
NoMad141763y@Oktokolo not minimalist. I will be moving overseas again in a few months, and since I'm not made of money, I only have 30 ish kilos allowed in one big luggage. (that's just about everything I own, btw) so anything I add basically throws something else out.

@NoMad
Have a part of your stuff be mailed to your new overseas address.
And depending on the used hardware market at you destination, it may be better to get the hardware upgrade there. -
NoMad141763y@Oktokolo mailing anything from or to the land of kangaroos is not cheap. Check at your nearest post shop for examples 😛
-
@NoMad Just mail some kangaroos around the world. That solves the underlying problem of the world-wide kangaroo shortage causing high postal fees. :-)

Animal protection will literally kick you in balls if they catch you hoarding wild animals tho. (They're wilder than the animals, if you ask me) -
@NoMad Btw., you'd certainly enjoy the more than 10 years old laptop I'm reviving with used parts from Ebay: upgraded from singlecore Celeron to Core2Duo (yeah, it's socketed!), from 160GB HDD to 256GB SSD, and from 2GB RAM to 3GB RAM. But it does run Mint 20.2 Cinnamon!

Current lappy got about 4GB RAM and not enough cores. I can't even run krita without it slowing down more the more I work on a file.
It would be frustrating if only I wasn't so depressed.
So yeah, due to being broke and lack of nerves, I'm gonna completely stop working on the comic for now.
