Btw, i got 1 tb gdrive space for free 2 years. I'll probably pay for them after free period expires.
-
donuts236728y@HoloDreamer just 2yrs? Pfftt... This is forever.. Or so they say.
I don't store anything important on it so should be ok. Also it can download BT directly. -
Grimmdev2448yYou also get free space for Mega cloud storage. But you can just use git for projects.
-
donuts236728y@Jilano I don't even need 1tb but my point was why is are Western companies so stingy.. Or capitalist...
-
@Jilano I'll try it... Can encrypt everything myself and 5 euro a month is manageable as hell =)
-
I use Google Drive, iCloud and OneDrive for different things. Altogether I have 600 gig and the cost is less than $10 a month.
For a professional working in the US, it's practically free and hosted at companies that take security very seriously - one lunch can cost more these days. -
@codeblue The main reason I don't user those services is although they take security very serious, they disregard privacy. But, if it works for you, who am I to judge!
-
devs30758y@Jilano Well yes I guess, to some extend. I just think it's quite difficult retain privacy without living alone somewhere in the woods
-
@devs It's not choosing between privacy OR the internet. You can use a lot of software and services which allow you to retain a certain amount of privacy which is still pretty high
-
@devs You can for example use a fully open source os, services like Signal and Tutanota/Protonmail, duckduckgo/searx.me and so on
-
devs30758y@linuxxx But are these services as well built then? I often think that being private also means loosing a lot of useful functionality. An example: I currently use google business for email with my custom domain, because it offers many advanced filters, methods of categorising mails and creating scripts to sort and do specific things depending on the contents of the mail
-
@devs I find that tutanota offers more features than I use really and I noticed that Signal even has more features than whatsapp for example. They're not worse by default, just more privacy friendly :)
Yes, tutanota has less features than gmail but I'll happily give that up for my data not being sold and analyzed etc (personal preference though). -
@devs very very true. Had that problem myself but then more and more people started using it so now about everyone I talk to often/usually has it as well, lucky me!
-
davebyrne218yI have my own dedicated server. Among many many many other things, it has an instance of OwnCloud installed on it. As much space as i care to build the RAID array to, completely private and not in anyone elses "cloud".
-
@Jilano Tbh, with services like MEGA, I don't think you have to sacrifice much anymore
-
@Jilano I think three to four years? And then, Tutanota grew with 500000 users in the past few months, signal explodes in new user amounts every day, megaupload 2.0 is coming.... This years going to be good!
wtf... it seems OneDrive has downgraded my free 100GB storage.... I thought that was supposed to be locked in for life..... :(
O wellz... yes that's 2TB free though the servers are in China...
