Why did you become a programmer?

Me? Because I can make things the way I want.

I used to be in a study for design (wanted to do something with games) and then out of nowhere I got a letter during the summer vacation that I was successfully unregistered (unlisted/fired don't know the correct word sorry).
And because I didn't really feel like trying to get back in, my father and I quickly sought another study (you can't leave school before you're 18 here).
And I sort-of accidentally got into a programming study (last resort kinda thing).
And I fell in love with programming during my second year, being able to build something from scratch is awesome. Then I went to college doing Business-IT (development and project management) and I just love the idea of building something that solves somebody's problem, going to the bottom of what there problem actually is and trying to fix it.
I just love the challenge of it all

@ikwilkoffie same though I stated earlier. I actually went to bschool and took IT as my second major... It was completely useless tough... Couldn't get a ML/Algo job even though I took those courses... They didn't say "this stuff is useless in real world, u'd be better off with that CS Nellie"...

That, and I got sick of other people flaking out on helping me with my ideas. Learning to do it myself meant there was always a way to push things forward.

I tried a lot of other jobs and career tracks, but most of them could easily be mastered within 6 months on the job. Once this happened I would get very bored and unhappy and find something more interesting and repeat.

Then I started programming and eventually landed a full time job. After several years, I still feel that I have no idea what I'm doing and I love it. It's all about the challenge and passion of constantly learning new things.

I started programming without knowing what I was doing, 10 years later I still don't know what I am doing.

I was deciding between two Engineering majors: Electronic or Software.

I wanted to learn how some 3rd party programs I used interacted with Counter-Strike, IRC chat rooms & scrapped web pages from CEVO, CAL and UGS.

So I picked Software.

I always just realize that things are to much work and that I'm lazy...

@billgates I wanted to build apps and I started doing some small things with AutoPlay Media Studio when I was a kid, I had no idea I were programming.
