The awkward moment when your ethernnet cable is the bottleneck in your Internet connection.

Never thought I'd see such speeds in India. Wow moment!

Side note: I was subscribed to a 50mbps plan. Last night my subscriber upgraded their network and just gave me a upgrade FREE of cost.

    Does speedtest think you're on the water?

    Sweet deal, btw. Faster than my internet.

    What?! Which internet service is that? How much does it cost?
  • 1
    @spongessuck coastal areas, thus.
  • 5
    @HoloDreamer it's a local provider. Including taxes it's about ₹1200. (~$17)

    @sam9669 I don't like Hathaway or Tikona. They provide 4mbps for 1000 bucks. It's a provider is Chennai. CherryNet @kai18

    Give me fiber or give me death.

    Had a similar story with a broken cable, was bottlenecking down to 150Mbps instead of 245

    @mcraz that's a steal! I pay inr 1000 for the shitty 1 mbps bsnl

    Your ethernet cable is almost never the bottleneck. Did you mean your LAN port on the pc or on the switch?
  • 2
    @luc- Yes, I both my NIC and the switch port are 10/100. Saying cable was a reference to the fact that it's local connectivity issue rather than at the ISP level. :)

    @HoloDreamer Just last year, I was paying 1400 for a 4mb (~512kbps in reality) connection from BSNL with their shitty on again, off again service. Shifted to a different part of the city, peace !

    Are you sure you are from India!? 250mbps. Great.
    I pay 1000 bucks for 4mbps!
  • 1

    Ohh it's that company. I read it in news thought it still long to come. Great! Hope it spreads around India soon xD

    You need to test your speed to a foreign data center like in the US or Europe.
  • 1
    For me it's actually the cable that is the bottleneck because I had to split it up so I have Ethernet and phone through the same cable. Normally I get 200Mb/s and now I'm capped at 100Mb/s. If I'm somewhere else in the house I get 200Mb/s.

    @perfectdark Speed test is primarily to see if your provider is providing you the promised (what you pay for).

    So, while you're right for the real world scenario that wouldn't be fair for your provider. If he gives what he promised, your contact succeeds there. Rest is the noise from hops, geography and server limitations.

    @Florens get fiber 😁

    @Nerzal

    Never do that. Seriously never do that.

    I'm planning to move out of India, if someone offers free study or job with Visa sponsorship.
