    I don't understand how small private players can provide it at such low cost but big players does not..

    @HoloDreamer I think it'd the same as startup vs corporation. It takes time to implement something on a large network and also ensure reliability and take huge profits.

    Surely this is starting to get to the point where, for most practical purposes, the limit is going to be server capacity and pure network latency?
  • 2
    @Zaphod65 yeah, I really have no idea what to do of the speed I have now. I don't download stuff that often. Normal browsing is affected more by latency.

    Which country btw?

    @sragha45 the picture says something about India.

    I'm still stuck with my 16 Mbit connection here in Germany lmao

    I've got something around 60 Mbps and it's already a huge speed to me. Can't even imagine what one Gbps would be like.

    @HoloDreamer because people hardly use the capacity, just in spikes. Besides its always "up to", so if there is heavy load, you don't have 1gig reserved just for you.

    Got 100mbps down and lame 3mbps up...
    I would have loved a symmetrical 1Gbps line.
    Put little home server, NASs with personal cloud services that would be backed up to AWS glacier, some media center and shit, a site, a personal mail server... damn I want a 1Gbps line!

    I use the same ISP.. Someday I'll upgrade to this plan.. Right now I'm happy with their 75MBps plan
  • 1
    Yes, 1Gbps for this price, but it isn't available everywhere yet, so I have ~80Mbps up and down. Hopefully they will upgrade it here soon.

    Denmark reporting in. I have 300/300 but 500/500 and 1000/1000 are options for private households as well.

    And here comes most poor person on devRant...... I got 2mb Internet speed šŸ˜„šŸ˜„šŸ˜„

    @Ceaser they don't have a 75 plan anymore. Starts from 100
  • 0
    @nicholai same over here in iceland
  • 0
    And now find a harddrive that can handle that speed
  • 0
    @Krokoklemme not really. Even mechanical HDD can handle 1000 mega BITS. And HDD are rated at 160mega BYTES. They can easily handle this load.

    I guess he pays for 6Mbps and gets 500kBps.. IYKWIM

    Sata is limited to 6Gbps afaik and thats the current bottleneck, hence m.2 on pci-e busses.

    I hate the OP now, I think

    @saumilshah I know. Unit symbol for gigabit is Gb and for gigabyte it'sā€‹ GB. But it would be nice to have gigabyte internet.
  • 0
    @justJDev fun fact: 1 GB = 1000 MB, 1 Gb = 1000 Mb
