Anyone else who can't focus while listening to music? I can't grasp how that's not annoying to people.

The sound of silence.
For real, the best coding flows happen then.

If there is something that I can hear and process, my train of thought behaves like a dream behaves when you wake up in the morning.

Even worse are children, humming, whistling or munching as the ONLY sound in that silence, Im scorching inside when that happens.

If I can't be somewhere silent (preferably completely), I block the distractions with binaural beats and/or sound of rain.

I can't listen to music with words. I just throw on some deafening rawstyle/trap/dub and "Dive down the dev rabbit hole.." as I say.

If I really need to concentrate, I also am distracted by any kind of music. If I just "scribble" something, I usually listen to something.

@edsdame I do have to mute my music if I'm trying to understand a peice of my highly-under-commented code.

    @Cyanite Yup, me too.

I can mostly focus with music (or even in a noisy room), but if what I have in front of me is more demanding than usual (like when I'm tired) then I stop the music and do what I need to do and then get the music back on

I often need background noise to keep my head sorted, I can't explain it. It happens with a lot of things, even when gaming or talking to someone. I often listen to a mix or a random people playing and talking. There are times when I need to really focus and then it needs to be silent.

I code with music ^_^ people are different

I will code to music sometimes, but it's always lyric-less electronica. Most of the time I keep a small desk fan on for background noise. As someone with tinnitus, complete silence is utterly deafening.

@likewow777 yeah because if it has too much lyrics then you will be distracted by the words and cant focus on anything :)

You could try getting some noise canceling ear plugs. That way you don't have to move to a silent place in order to focus.

Then try having tinnitus. You will love to listen to some kind of music when focusing ;)

I put any kins of music. Mostly clasical or rock that i already know.

And most of the time my brain is just focusing on the task and because the music isn't new it just dissapears untill i start noticing again...
Its like swinging yout feet, run your finger on your table. Something involuntary that you don't notice until you step out of your focus :).

I can only focus if I'm really blasting something. Listening to my own breathing bores me rather quickly.

@Cyanite Just wondering if you mean the raw hardstyle rawstyle genre? Because then you be the first girl I've met so listens to that as well 😃.

Oh and yeah, I can't focus without music :/
