Do you just click the mouse wheel to close a tab even though it's a pain on your finger? I don't know where I got this habit from. I'm too lazy to point the cursor to the X button.

ctrl click it, or ctrl+w to close the active tab

I use a thinkpad and it has a middle mouse button in its track pad. I use it all the time to close tabs. It also opens links in new tab when clicked on a link. This is so much convenient (over say Ctrl + click) that I use this middle track pad exclusively for this, and feel general discomfort of using a different computer as I miss it there.

dont forget about ctrl+shift+t, it will (attempt to) reopen your last closed tab

I just press key 'x' -> close tab.
