I like how Microsoft added a FAKE "Do not auto update" button in Windows 10

Feel free to use another OS :)

@ScribeOfGoD ms-dos 6.22? Does not have any update buttons.

Isn't that supposed to happen? I thought the only thing that was blocked was the installation.

Or mark every saved wifi connection 'metered' which also prevents windows from downloading updates automatically

If you absolutely need Windows, try the LTSB version, it's meant for critical systems which need stability. No unnecessary features like cortana, metrics, wmp or edge, and it only receives security updates.

Is a "don't release-upgrade this" option really THAT difficult to implement?

Then again they have zero incentive to do this. With the built-in spyware and tracking, they have plenty of mined data to sell, and I'm sure the NSA/CIA paid a nice sum for additional backdoors. ๐Ÿ˜ก

    Fucking Microsoft.

I update whenever i want. I have set metered connection On. Never had any update prompts.

@Ashkin They dont want to get to the Internet Explorer 7 situation.

Web dev all over the world have flashbacks about this... Even me.

Updates are simple easy and it takes maximum of 20 min(worst case scenario). Low price to pay so they dont get back to internet explorer situation.

    Muggles never do updates ...

@curlyDev forcing anything on people is unethical.

I don't mind autoupdates in the least -- it's the inability to disable them (at least easily) that makes me so angry.

@DLMousey I see it as exploiting users by forcing spyware/etc on them when they have no other choice. The average person cannot/will not figure out how to use Linux.

While I do hate forced updates but if they only make it like Apple, auto update is forced only for major security risks, if my memoryโ€‹ serves me well.
I wish I could go fully for Linux I still do .Net projects ๐Ÿ˜ž

@Ashkin forcing anything isn' unethical for a long time.

Google can change his layout anytime same as any app/service and you cannot just say no to a new Android OS for example.

I don't know spyware, but cortana gathers data exactly how google/ apple does it(siri for example on apple).

Microsoft products are still bussiness oriented so i dont think they risk getting this ammount of heat.
