    sure, postal address for example if you substitute the machine with a person :D

    Mac address. Hashing of your windows licence. Pretty much anything that is unique could in theory be used in the same way as an ip.

    @Tobyvw MAC addresses won't work if you're dealing with a few virtual machines. Some don't have hardware addresses

    IP is just one of the network layer protocol, you do have others but none is actually used
