How digital marketing helps in boosting the traffic of a website?

Network traffic of the website increases when you send more crap to the visitors

Every time an advertisement from a website I didn't specifically request newsletters from slips through my spam filter, I spend up to a few hours trying to break the site. I imagine submitting several kilobytes long search queries containing a random selection of words from the scrabble dictionary can count as site traffic.
