Was told at work today that I don’t follow directions closely enough and the lack of attention to detail in my work is a problem.

I remember being this way since my first elementary school teacher pointed it out to me. I’ve always been this way. It’s how my brain is wired. No matter how hard I try, I always miss something. Especially when it is a really complex set of tasks. I’ve literally got the results of a cognitive test I took in college documenting and quantifying my working memory deficits.

You think you’ll change that now, after more than four decades of me being like this, with a performance review? Good fucking luck!

Sounds like something that needs a diagnosis and lawful protection. So they can't fire you for it

I have adhd and these certainly sound like classic adhd symptoms. You can always mention these to a dr if you feel the need

@demortes It’s never listed as a covered condition on any employment applications I ever fill out. Always physical or severe mental disorders. Never “minor” things like ADHD or dyscalculia.

I hate the idea of performance reviews. It’s nothing more than a subjective score of your work. Especially if the person giving you the performance review doesn’t like you because you prove them wrong on multiple occasions

I've got ADHD, but I don't struggle as much in my current job, due to actual efficient ticketing.

Who knew small tasks are easier to complete?

@PappyHans Even better, we do 360 degree reviews. They’re supposed to be anonymous. There are 3 of us on my team including our manager, and it’s a small company. So I’m not going to be glaringly honest or specific about anything I’d say about upper management simply because the process of deduction would put me in a crosshairs.

@stackodev the only time I was happy with a system was when I worked in a company where people were able to give feedback anonymous or public based on their preferences and as often as they wanted. In my opinion everyone should be able to give feedback whenever they feel the need for it, and if they don’t feel comfortable saying it publicly then they can simply submit an anonymous one and that’s it. Obviously in order to be taken seriously and actionable your feedback must include verifiable facts etc but you git the idea. Everything else is not representative of the reality in my opinion.

@PappyHans honestly more a subjective score of you not your work.
