I've handed my resignation and given notice 45 days ago, and my boss still doesn't believe me. It will be quite interesting to see how he reacts on my last day.

    45 days is an eternity, why not two weeks?

    @JKyll Because I am nice

    It will be even better on the day after your last day when he realises it really wasn‘t a practical joke.

    @djeddiej

    No it's not. Here in the land of Kangaroos we don't have "at will" contracts. Instead, we have a notice period written in our contracts. In my case, it was 30 days. I decided to give more, because of my position within the company.

    @FuckJava “the more you know” . I learned something new today, thanks (my Aussie friends never told me this; also love Australia)

    @djeddiej here in Germany we usually have a notice period of 3 months.

    I think its nice, gives everyone involved time to prepare.
    Also this goes both ways, you can‘t be fired and be on the street next week.

    @ebrithil three months ? What do you do between the time you indicate your leave and the time one actually leaves? Work as normal? Does one care at that point ?

    @djeddiej well, I did. I finished up my open projects and documented everything i was working on.

    That took most of 2 months, then it was mostly answering open questions from colleagues. The last few weeks i took my remaining days of paid leave.

    @djeddiej that time is mostly for handover.

    @Redd Started the new job; still no replacement for me with the old employer. Not sure what he is going to do...
