Voxera113888y@Charmgoggles sometimes there might even be outside pressure to have a minimum of mix of genders.
At least some government agency's can have such demands on them. -
If there are hundreds of equivalent skilled devs out there, I don't see why people can't select on gender.
-
I have experience of this happening twice personally. My question is: how on earth is this legal? I can guarantee that if I refused to hire anyone who wasn't a white male, I would be in some serious legal trouble for discrimination; why does the argument not hold the other way around?
-
@Charmgoggles that's like saying if there are hundreds of students willing to go to a school, why not choose on race? Or should we just we just override Brown v. Board of Education and make segregation legal?
-
@nblackburn But WHY??? How is it better to hire 50% women to a position when 80% of the applicants are men. If men are more interested in a field in which they are equally competent, they should get proportionally more of the jobs.
-
@SecondThread Because they can brag that they are a great place to work because equality and shit.
It's not better, in an ideal world gender is not a factor to be looking at. -
I think you have to work harder to get to a better workplace. In some companies there is a real bro mentality that fucks up everything. It takes a lot of work to get to a more equal place.
Then again perhaps it is sexist in a totally different way: fashion industry? -
@SecondThread wouldn't that make it separate male and female companies? Or did I misunderstand what segregation means?
