You shouldn't look at the ZDnet article.
Look at the source:

Simply put: It's a *global* tracker, utilizing news / prominent media activity, accumulating these (that blind thingy).
Yeah. Any number looks scary if you just sum it up as much as you can.
Plus a few of these entries are definitely red flags, where the company literally sold their people out, which was a blessing given how they were treated.
Many startups went bankrupt in the last 2 years, many companies whose bright idea of "we make profit by just eliminating any kind of safety net and operating on a plus minus zero margin" failed spectacularly.
Or whose "let's just assume nothing can go wrong like ever and all the (shady) speculative business we're doing is completely going well".
I think tech companies will still hire.
It's (sadly) hard for those who are age 40 plus.
For reasons I mostly don't want to understand as they're either superstitious (e.g. an "older" person has less work capacity) or downright malicious (exploiting youngsters is easier, plus they won't talk back or unionize).
So no. Instead of painting it all black, maybe we should be happy that some of these companies are completely taken off the grid.
After all, they reaped what they sowed. -
Voxera113972y@IntrusionCM well in Sweden 40+ is not a problem. I am well beyond and get offers every week :)
-
voodoo145602yI don't think that's a problem, maybe they don't understand the market. I mean, the demand is so high everywhere... That's why my question :)

@Voxera that sounds good...
Some discussions here and at other places in Germany makes you think they talk about cattle instead of living people 🙄
... even cattle wouldn't deserve such treatment, loveable creatures. -
@voodoo14
Well... Because that's what the economy wants. So the press writes what the economy likes to hear.
After all, exploitation is so much easier when you can say: even google pays less, why should we pay more? -
@voodoo14 cattle market.
Some of the upper management talks (and even PMs) I can overhear now and then, especially when I need to participate in the recruiting process, sounds like they're talking about cattle. Not humans at all.
Sentences like "He's 52, probably cannot take the stress and isn't up to date regarding XY" isn't uncommon.
... Note that that sentence comes before even asking who the interview did nor what the interviewer thinks about him. -
Voxera113972y@IntrusionCM I am 52 ;)
And I am generally the one complaining that things are to slow :P
Especially when changing things. -
