    What is your problem?
USB-C is a pretty well designed connector.

Apple has a pretty spotty records when it comes to designing connectors let alone being forced to pay €80 just to charge your device. So please no.

Or you know they could just use the standard connector everyone else uses

Are you drunk? Can we not at one time stop having thousand differrent cables for everything?? And yes that would be good for the environment aswell

    To explain this:

Thunderbolt is a specification to support everything possible with the cables you plug in.

Thunderbolt isn't the proprietary Apple plug, it runs through C-to-C cables!

Imagine the following scenario: You have two 4K monitors daisy-chained together with a Type C cable and the monitors are capable of doing Power Delivery with about 60 watts through the cable.

Plug it into a usb C plug and just then realize you've gotten a USB 2.0 wired type c on your laptop. (Yes there are still a multitude of new devices coming with this)

Plug it into a Thunderbolt port and it does what you expected it to do.
