I guess it differs based on age and life stage. I'm young and don't have children/family. I want to use this as an opportunity to grow financially and career wise as much as possible. Tech cities not only have the companies, they also have the tech communities, meetups, services, ...
Still, It is difficult to live alone in a new city/country with no connections or support.
P.S. Living in a poultry farm home is my dream retirement plan. -

@rantsauce don't you thjnk that life will be quite different if you choose to come back after a few years?the people you had left would have moved on with their lives, adjusting to live without you. what exactly would you be returning back for? and what are all the things that you are willing to leave behind while living away?
sorry for the bombardment of questions, i am in a similar stage and these questions have been going in an out of my brain -
@dotenvironment I did not have that many people in my life to begin with. I was mostly isolated (a mistake). Anyway, people seem to have moved on already. They have their own lives. I, on the other hand, am trying to build a life for myself from the ground up, you could say. As I said, it depends on circumstances and your stage in life.
this might be controversial, but what exactly use to be / are benefits of moving out to live in "tech hub cities"?
i would like to hear the points which applies to both pre pandemic and post pandemic (aka remote work boom) era.
going to a bigger city if you are living in villeges / unreachable areas seems a valid move as there will be opportunities in the city. but going out of home citiy (aka a place with decent opportunities, even if less paying), to a completely new "tech hub" city just because there is a bunch of companies have offices seems a bit much.
what's the plan? you going to bay area for 5 years, and then coming back with vested stocks to your poultry farm home at springfield ? or is the plan to get settled in the city too? in my country, the difference i expense s in my city to my country's tech hub is 10x , even tho my city itself is the capital and has plenty of tech companies .
they offer lesser salaries tho, but leaving away my nest of friends, family , relatives and other known people to start my own dynasty at a completely new hustling city with no connections, just to earn a few extra bucks seems very less compelling
