First of all what is the world that we are living in? So many people so many opportunities and the competition just keeps getting increased? In any field that you get into millions already have excelled in it you have to compare yourself there. Earning money is hard these days yet some people are just living their lives so easily. anyways back to grind. back to preparing for a pointless exam of a pointless semester in a pointless university in a pointless country in a pointless world. No wonder the Earth is round.

"No wonder the Earth is round."

    Minecraft players disagree.

@Demolishun there is no reason the world of Minecraft shouldn’t be round. It appears flat locally just as our world. But no one has ever dug through it to come out on the other side.
And no one has ever seen it from a high enough altitude to see the curvature.

@Lensflare That would actually be a very funny mod to make. If you go high enough you start to see the curve. lol

"Earning money is hard these days yet some people are just living their lives so easily" - late stage capitalism.

the rich get richer, the poor get poorer, the middle class disappears, and everyone who tries to change something about it is defamed as "bad, evil socialist".

until the whole thing collapses - like every system that fails to balance itself - because the poor starve and the rich don't have anyone left to work for them.

@tosensei the middle class dissapearing is not a capitalist feature, neither is the rich get richer and the poor getting poorer.

These are features of corruption which also happen (and i would argue, happen much quicker) in communists, dictatorships and monarch societies.

At least in capitalist societies you have the opportunity to get richer

@bioDan it's a core feature of capitalism - getting richer based on the money you already have, because you (as the rich guy) own the 'means of production' aka 'the things that make money and give power'. it's literally what unchecked capitalism is in its purest, basest definition.

and please don't mix concepts of economy with concepts of government here - both can be mixed and matched as you please.

and as for the contrast with communism: both are extremes of the same spectrum, one extreme being "get maximum profit for an individuum, no matter the cost" and the other "get maximum profit for the collective, no matter the cost". and both suck, if taken undiluted. there needs to be balance, and currently, the balance leans a bit too far to the capitalist extreme.

no, we don't need communism. but we do need _a bit more_ communism than we have now.

in the end, it's _all_ about the balance between irreconcilable extremes.

@tosensei its not a core feature of capitalism, its a core feature of corruption, you are mixing terms.

I wholeheartedly agree and promote having a balance in economic ways of government. But you are misrepresenting capitalism in your claims.

The heart of capitalism is free markets, not the rich get richer. There are many rich people that loose all their wealth due to bad investments, luck, overspending, and many other reasons.

I don't think the problem is that the balance leans a bit too far for the capitalists extreme, I think there is not enough social responsibility and a lot of corruption due to bureaucracy and oligarchy.

@bioDan free market ultimately means that wealth aggregates in single spots. (just like gravity ultimately means that mass aggregates in single spots). because wealth generates wealth without work. it's an inherent behavioral property of the system. corruption only amplifies the effect- both the classical kind (which is obvious) as well as the moral kind (amoral rich people are able AND willing to manipulate the system for their benefit - amoral poor people usually aren't)

also, "not enough social responsibility" could very easily be paraphrased to "not enough socialism", IMHO.
