I find this is less annoying (still annoying tho) with a sensible (read: not 80, we are not in fucking ttys) auto wrap length and like numbers (to quickly see wraps) enabled.

It also helps when you have these little wrap icons like in notepad++ or vscode

Sometimes the cure would be worse. But normally, splitting long methods up into smaller methods and functions is the first step back to sanity.
