My windows laptop was having performance issues since last few days.
LAPTOP MAINTENANCE MODE ACTIVATED!
So scanned my whole system with an anti-virus, cleared unwanted data with Ccleaner, quick defragged the C drive, did system restore etc etc, still no luck.
Today I found out the reason: someone had turned the 'Power Options' to 'Power Saver'.

But didn't task manager show you that CPU is holding at a specific frequency? I recall power saving mode reduces max frequency for CPU

@gitpush It reduced freq, and also limits active cores, at least that's the behavior I've seen on my laptop

@gitpush CPU and RAM utilization was somewhere near 50% always so did not care much. Moreover, I only ran xampp, a text editor and mozilla firefox since the past few days (firefox was lagging pretty bad, so refreshed it too).

@Tw0r0 me too. I got a cheapo kingston ssdnow 120GB which I got for 40$ off of ebay. I put my hard drive on an hdd caddy. Then moved the users directory, user files, desktop folder and remaining data to the hdd. Also I keep another secondary program files folder for huge applications which I rarely use but cant seem to part with (mostly games) and portable apps.
