This whole corporate numbers game is killing me. I know I'm getting paid to do what I'm asked, I know. But the metrics are so one dimensional

You fixed the data of 20 tests? Doesn't count because you didn't code
You implemented a function to reduce recurrent failures in the future? Doesn't count because those already pass with time consuming workarounds
You spent half a day communicating and coordinating across teams to fix an issue? That's 1 test, this other person changed 1 line in 5 files, you're 4 tests behind

I would just continue doing what you're doing. If you end up being fired, you can celebrate leaving that nonsense behind.

    "data driven" is a lie
Its purpose is to make people feel better about themselves

@spongessuck I am getting fired and you're right. I admit I am slow, but it's only been a couple of months. In hindsight it's how it would've ended up anyway unless the managers somehow vouched for me, so I think it's likely for the best.

@Sputnik that is just sad. I'm all for metrics and data driven but this is not it. You can't have progress by lines of code.

You can have progress by automated test coverage, but that is just one metric not covering your overall performance.

If they want shit like that give it to them hard. Bloat stuff (hear great things about chatgpt). Avoid any complexity and avoid anything that costs you time like coordinating. Give 'em the lie!
