Trusting only a single hard drive with important data is like asking for the data to be lost. Never, ever trust a single hard drive, alywas backup your stuff.

For code, version-control-systems like git are a beatiful way to manage code, while at the same time keeping it save from hard drive fails (if you push your commits, that is)
