BRAG.

New home internet conexion. (yes home).

For lazy, screenshot is uploaded.

I fill it's "only" 2.5Gbps card which limits me, not ISP. But 10 G cards are fucking expensives

    If you go with 10 gig, you probably won't get away with just a card.

    Oh it’s Canada. How many kidneys does this cost? I only have two.

    Why do you even need that much? No commercial server on earth will allow you such speed (except for speed testing ones, and even those are limited)

    @iiii P2P applications like torrenting would be somehow appropriate, if you have a lot of big files and a lot of peers
  • 0
    @hippolyte p2p is bottlenecked by amount of connections, not really by speed of peers.
  • 0
    @iiii can't you have 50 peers with 100 MB/s each for example ?
  • 0
    @hippolyte yes. But majority of peers do not support such speeds in the first place. Majority of people are poor and with shitty internet access.

    @iiii Maybe it depends on the country, I don't know about North America but in european cities or in East Asia, gigabit speeds tend to be common and cheap nowadays. Here in France and in the countryside, given the actual network supports it, that's about 40-50 euros a month for 1-2 gigabit internet. ADSL with 1MB/s download is about 25-30 euros so not that far
  • 0
    @hippolyte whooping 30 fucking euros??? Why so expensive?
  • 0
    @iiii I'm not sure, it was kind of the norm 10 years ago and the price never really increased, so when it's 1986 Mbit/s more for only 15 euros more per month even poor people tend to get optical fiber 😂
  • 0
    @hippolyte I have optics for less than 5 bucks a month 😐
  • 2
    @iiii I don't. this connexion is supposed to be 1 G down, 750 mbps up.

    But I was not getting 1Gb down (500). So calle them.

    To do some tests they switched profile of connexion.

    They didn't reswitch it back.

    @fckIE 65 CAD/month :)
  • 0
    @iiii USD ? Doesn't sound expensive indeed
  • 1
    @hippolyte yup, around 5 usd for fiber to apartment.

    @NoToJavaScript lol, nice 😂

    @iiii Fun thing : They don't even have 2 Gbps offer.

    So my guess is I have fully unlimited conexion, limited only by my own hardware.

    (Router/modem is already on 10 Gbiots ports).

    @NoToJavaScript Lucky you lol. Telus here is killing me with 300mbps up and down at ~C$100. That’s on two year offer. I have to pay roughly 130 or so after.

    @fckIE I was with EBOX up until last may.

    Switched to Bell, because fiber and less expensive.

    eBox was 80$ for 400 down, 100 up.

    Bell : 65 (Without any contract) for 1 G down and 750 up.

    But since last May I had 3 times internet just not working, need to wait 24H so they send a person who will fix it.

    Multiple instances of speed changing from 1G to like 500 M or even less.

    So eBox was WAY WAY more stable (And I gad a static IP, with Bell no).

    But when shit works on Bell network, it's fucking flying.

    And each time intrnet wasn't working, they did add 100 GB Data for 2 days on my phone, so I routed whole home network through a phone.

    Insane how fast batterie drains. And no, you can't charge it at the same time, phone says "Too hot, charging disabled"

    @NoToJavaScript my only choices as is for most of our beautiful country, are limited to two.

    Telus and Shaw. Shaw can only 100mbps up max. So stuck with telus. There are some smaller carriers but I don’t like risking it because of work. But might give them a shot. I’m slightly outside of Vancouver btw.

    @fckIE I was about to ask what area you are in haha.

    Honestlly, I don't know what to do for you. Maybe look into starlink ? Not ideal, but can still be better than telus.

    I'm in Montreal btw. We have around 7 ISPs here. (Just big ones, couple of smaller ones too).

    Scratch that. 6. eBox was bought by Bell lol
